The Semai Orang Asli Community (45 families) of the 17th Mile off Jalan Pahang, Cameron Highland needed financial help to upgrade their living standard from poverty level. This was the conclusion drawn by Dr Benen Foo Ban Nyen and his fellow members of the Tropicana Mother Teresa Charity Group after their maiden visit to this Community deep in the jungle.

Several projects were presented to Dr Benen Foo the Special Advisor of ICAAM by Mr Christe Arokiasamy who devotes his life as a volunteer to help. The ICAAM Committee decided to fund RM40,000.00 into the construction of a 4 feet wide and about 5 km long concrete Path which has now completed and has impacted the daily activities of the said Community in particular the children who can now travel to and back from school in clean shoes and uniforms unlike before especially during raining seasons.

These were taken at the Church of Visitation in Seremban. The RM10,000.00 from ICAAM was donated
to the said church for building a house for the poor orang asli community near Seremban Town.

ICAAM’s Grand Charity Gala Dinner with YABhg Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed and YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali

A Grand Charity Gala Dinner organised by ICAAM is to be held at the Grand Ballroom, Westin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 2^nd of March 2013, 7pm with YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah bt HJ Mohd Ali as two honourable special guests.  This would indeed be a grand occasion for ICAAM as it will be a decade since Tun Dr Mahathir was the featured guest at ICAAM’s The Grand Gala Dinner in 2003. Tun Dr Mahathir will be speaking on “The Future of Malaysian Politics”.

This fund-raising event is being organised for an Education Fund whereby parts of the proceeds will be used to help fund prospective students with financial constraints.

It is hoped that all ICAAM  members and friends would be able to attend and make this a great celebration.

ICAAM presents you an evening with Tun Dr Mahathir on the 2nd of March 2013, a decade since his last visit on the 4th of July 2003 as a featured guest to our Gala Charity Dinner 2003. To begin the year of 2013 with a bang, ICAAM invites all members and friends to the third installment of our exclusive State of the Nation Dialogues, featuring Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan, Co-chairperson of Bersih 2.0, a citizen’s movement for free and fair elections. The series will also mark our first partnership with the Malay Mail, Redberry and IDEAS beginning the year of 2013, after a previous two successful dialogue with Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X and Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, CEO of 1MDB.

There will be light refreshments at the beginning of the Dialogue, so do come early and enjoy some networking and food before the session begins.

SPEAKERS PROFILE

Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi – Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer

Shahrol Halmi is the MD and CEO of 1Malaysia Development Berhad, a government-owned strategic development company. Amongst 1MDB’s current portfolio are two game changers for the real estate industry, poised to set new worldwide benchmarks for best-in-class smart and sustainable developments – the Kuala Lumpur International Financial District and Bandar Malaysia.

1MDB, via its CSR arm Yayasan 1MDB, also focuses on many programmes to improve access to education to develop talents, bridge gaps and enrich lives. Among its initiatives is Dana Belia, a platform for young people to obtain funding and channel their talent and energy towards promoting youth development in the country.

Prior to joining 1MDB, Shahrol was a Partner in Accenture where he acquired over 13 years of experience in providing business consulting services to various organisations in the Government, Financial Services and Oil & Gas sectors. Born in Pahang, Shahrol is a Royal Military College and Stanford University alumnus who graduated in Electrical Engineering. He is also a cat-lover and a self-proclaimed tech geek who enjoys fawning over the latest shiny gadgets.

PROFILE OF AZRAN OSMAN-RANI

Azran is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Air Asia X. Prior to this current position, Azran was a Senior Director of Business Development at Astro All Asia Networks plc. He also held previous position at McKinsey & Company, a global management consultant firm.

Azran holds a Master degree in Economics and Engineering and a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, both of which were from Stanford University. He is married to Azreen Pharmy, a former news anchor with Astro and they have 3 wonderful boys.
